About

Once, not so long ago in a previous life I was known as The Queen of Heels and Handbags but after a sea change I am now the Queen of Flip Flops and Beach Bags.  I could write I am also The Queen of Bikinis but that would just be an out an out lie.  I am an interior designer/stylist, a disastrous cook and a lover of books, give me anything and I will read it.

My Family

Mr. Smarts is my husband of almost 15 years.  I actually did ask him what he would prefer to be called but the reply “He who must be obeyed,” had us all rolling on the floor laughing, much to his dismay. Who was he kidding!  Anyway, he is so smart, (usually) that at times I marvel in the fact that we actually got it together in the first place.  He is also a very private chappie, hence the name change. I wrote chappie because his word for chips is chippies and every time he utters the word “chippies” my hand starts to tingle and I just want to slap him.  I’m sure he does this on purpose, I know you do Mister, don’t deny it!

We have three delightful children, Kate who is 14, Will 13 and our youngest Pippa is 10.  I do spend a lot of time ferrying between dance studios, gymnasiums, soccer, netball and cricket grounds plus various other places which, if I think about it too much I will break out into a cold sweat and realize I have left one of them behind, somewhere.  That’s the great thing about moving to a small town, everyone knows your kids and looks out for them.

Last but not least I must introduce you to my husband’s girlfriend who, you will be shocked to read, also lives with us.  She is none other than Miss Molly our supposed family dog.  Supposed because she really only likes/loves Mr Smarts.  She growls whenever Mr Smarts and I smooch so she’s not allowed to sleep in the house because there is no doubt in my mind that she will suffocate me in my sleep. Plus she is not very lady like and rolls around in every dead stinking thing she can find on the beach which means she pongs to high heaven.

So that’s us.

Blogging

Why to becoming a blogger?  Well I love to write and apparently sometimes I’m even funny when I don’t have a glass of red in my hand.  This came as a big surprise to me as I’ve always thought myself as rather a shy, serious and retiring type of person.

So let’s see if I can do this, I wonder if I can……

Two years later and where are we now?

Living on fifty acres in a tiny house with only two bedrooms, five people, three of which are teenagers and not only that,  it’s off the grid. Off the grid I tell you! So far off the grid I should be making candles we use so many.

And forget interior decorating I’m going to be a tiara, calf rearing farmer.  No more flip flops for me it’s gumboots, gumboots and more gumboots. Let’s just say my blog has taken on a whole new life of it’s own.

So, yeehah, giddy up and come along for the ride. It’s going to be fascinating, this new life of mine.

  1. Looks like you have a pretty awesome lifestyle going on! I wouldn’t mind living off the grid if it was by the beach in a little beach cottage #ICanDream. By the way, I love your blog layout 🙂 🙂 Oh and has anyone told you that your children’s names are the same as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and Kate’s sister Pippa Middleton?

    1. Living off the grid is bombastic. Perfect in summer, winter, I was packing my bags 😉 Thanks re the blog layout. As for my kids names, they continue to threaten to sue me should anyone find out their real identities. Got to love teenagers 🙂

    1. Thanks Amanda, I’m trying to get my novel written, like so many of us, so am taking a break from blogging until I get it done. Hopefully I’ll get back to my blog soon. Thanks for reading. Will check out your page xx
